Events and tributes for 11th March, European Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Terrorism

The 11th March 2014 will mark the 10th anniversary of the biggest terrorist attack on our continent, and the Spanish and European associations and institutions will remember the victims and their families in several ceremonies and events.

For this very meaningful date, all the associations and institutions will share the same logo in all the events that have been organized so that the unity of the victims and political powers will be visualized under the common aim of remembrance and solidarity. The official ceremonies will start in the evening of 10th March at the headquarters of the European Commission in Madrid. In this first event, victims of 11-M will be accompanied by more than 20 victims from around the world who will spend that week in Madrid, accompanying and embracing the victims of 11-M.

In addition, a funeral mass will take place in the Almudena cathedral on the morning of 11th March, where the King and Queen of Spain will be present. After the religious rite, there will be a ceremony and floral offering in the city’s El Retiro park, in the area known as the Forest of Memories, which was created to pay tribute to the victims. In this beautiful scenario, there are cypresses and olive trees; one for each of the deceased in the attacks.

However, it is not necessary to be in Madrid to remember the victims of this terrorist attack. As in previous years, we can all pay our humble respects at the following website: www.diadelrecuerdo.net.

Just a click away, anyone from anywhere in the world can write a dedication to the victims, their families, friends and colleagues. This is ultimately a tribute from society to society, which was brutally attacked on 11th March, 2004.

But these acts and tributes are not the only ones, since many city councils of several Spanish cities will contribute to remember that day.
